Expressing support for designation of the week of February 3, 2025, through February 7, 2025, as "National School Counseling Week".

Sponsored By: Representative Sánchez, Linda T. [D-CA-38]

Introduced

Summary

Designates National School Counseling Week to highlight the vital role of school counselors in student success. The joint resolution would recognize the American School Counselor Association's Feb 3–7, 2025 week and honor counselors who guide students' academic, social-emotional, and career development, promote college and career readiness, encourage challenging coursework including STEM, and support students facing bullying, mental health challenges, trauma, family deployment, or other hardships. It notes an average national student-to-counselor ratio of 376-to-1, above the recommended 250-to-1, and is ceremonial in nature and would not authorize funding or create programs.
