Veterans on Medicare: premium rules
If enacted, this would require certain Medicare notices given after enactment to explain how VA enrollment affects your Medicare costs. The notice would say VA enrollment months count toward your monthly Part B premium. The notice would also say VA enrollment is creditable prescription drug coverage for Medicare Part D. HHS would have to post the same explanation on Medicare.gov and other HHS websites it finds relevant. Within 180 days of enactment, HHS and VA would report to Congress on updates to HHS publications and estimate (A) how many veterans were paying an increased monthly Part B premium as of enactment and (B) how many veterans were ever enrolled in the VA patient enrollment system.
