Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Allow MCH funds for pediatric cancer

This bill would amend the Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant to explicitly allow States to use MCH funds for pediatric-specific initiatives in state cancer control programs and to implement the advisory committee's recommendations. The bill would not authorize new federal funding. If enacted, States would be able to use existing MCH funds for pediatric cancer activities such as care coordination, psychosocial supports, and survivorship services.

Federal pediatric cancer advisory committee

This bill would create a temporary pediatric cancer advisory committee at HHS. The Secretary would appoint federal health program representatives and two pediatric stakeholders. The committee would produce best practices, recommend how to use HRSA and Title V funds for pediatric cancer, meet yearly with state coalitions, and report to Congress and publish findings within two years of its first meeting. The committee would end two years after its first meeting.

States must include pediatric experts

This bill would require States receiving CDC-linked assistance for comprehensive cancer control plans to assure HHS that their cancer coalitions include at least two pediatric cancer experts. The Secretary (through the CDC Director) would enforce this condition for receiving the assistance. This is a planning and coalition composition requirement and would not provide new federal funding to families.
