Introduced
Summary
Expands LIHEAP eligibility to households at or below 75% of a State's median income for fiscal year 2027. The bill would let States use existing Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program grant funds to pay households within that threshold in FY2027 only. More energy help for low-income households
If enacted, you would be able to get LIHEAP energy help in fiscal year 2027 if your household income is at or below 75 percent of your state's median income. States would be allowed to use LIHEAP grant funds to make those payments under existing LIHEAP payment rules. This expansion would apply only for fiscal year 2027 and uses the LIHEAP meanings for 'State', 'State median income', and 'household'.
