ATF shutdown changes federal enforcement
This bill would abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). It names no successor and gives no effective date or plan to move staff, cases, rules, or money. If enacted, this could change who enforces federal firearms, explosives, alcohol, and tobacco laws. Gun and explosives dealers and makers could see fewer federal checks or new uncertainty. ATF workers could lose jobs or authority, and communities could have less federal enforcement.
