Sponsored By: Representative Velázquez, Nydia M. [D-NY-7]
Introduced
Summary
Congressional Gold Medal for Arturo Alfonso Schomburg. This bill would authorize a posthumous Congressional Gold Medal recognizing his work collecting and preserving the history and culture of the African diaspora. The Secretary of the Treasury would strike the medal and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture would receive it for display and research. The bill also encourages the Smithsonian to exhibit the medal elsewhere and permits the Treasury to sell bronze duplicates to cover production costs through the U.S. Mint Public Enterprise Fund.
