Tighter limits on Iran sanctions waivers
If enacted, the U.S. could not grant licenses or waivers for deals with certain Iranian people or groups. The covered people are those on the U.S. Treasury’s Specially Designated Nationals sanctions list under Executive Order 13224 as of January 20, 2021. A license could be allowed only if the President certifies they stopped involvement in terrorism. The President would send that certification to House Foreign Affairs and Financial Services and to Senate Foreign Relations and Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. It would not change any Treasury general licenses that were in effect on January 20, 2021. This would take effect upon enactment.
