  • Providers and operators: Would lower fuel costs by removing the retail federal fuel tax and by giving a mechanism to recover taxes already paid, improving budgeting for mobile screening programs.

Fuel tax break for mobile mammography vehicles

If enacted, operators of mobile mammography vehicles would not owe the federal fuel excise tax on fuel used in those vehicles. The vehicle would need to be designed only to provide mammography services to patients inside the vehicle. If tax was already paid on qualifying fuel, the Treasury would refund the tax to the ultimate purchaser, without interest. Refunds could be limited by existing rules in subsection (k). These changes would take effect on the date the bill is enacted.
