DEA lab staff protected from cuts

This bill would stop the DEA from freezing hiring or cutting jobs for its forensic lab workforce. It would cover forensic chemists, fingerprint specialists, digital forensic examiners, and other lab staff. It would also cover DEA employees who will move into a DEA forensic lab that was being built or finalized on the date of enactment. The protection would only apply when freezes or cuts are due to spending cuts, reprogramming funds, or an employee’s probationary status. It would not block the Attorney General from acting on misconduct or poor performance under current rules.
