Protect SSI for disaster victims
If enacted, this bill would stop certain settlement money from counting against Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Amounts you or your spouse get in settlement for personal injury, physical sickness, or damage to property would not count as income. For resource tests, such money would be ignored in the month you receive it and every month after. The rule would apply to settlements received before, on, or after enactment and would explicitly treat the settlement in In Re: East Palestine Train Derailment, CASE NO. 4:23-CV-00242, as excluded even for months before enactment.
