Federal ban on package theft
If enacted, this bill would amend federal law to make it a federal crime to embezzle, steal, unlawfully take, carry away, or obtain by fraud any package or article that a private or commercial interstate carrier has delivered before the addressee or the addressee's agent has taken physical possession. If enacted, federal law enforcement could charge people who take such packages sent across state lines by private or commercial carriers. Households waiting for deliveries and carriers would gain expanded federal protection. The change would take effect upon enactment.
