Rules for investors in Chinese military firms

If enacted, the bill would require Treasury to add companies the Defense Department identifies as Chinese military firms to a Treasury list within 90 days. Once a company is listed, the investment bans in Executive Order 13959 (as amended by EO 14032) would apply within 60 days. You would be allowed to buy or sell that company’s publicly traded securities for one year starting on the listing date, but only to divest your holdings. The bill would define covered securities to include exchange and over‑the‑counter securities in any currency and derivatives tied to them. It would also define who counts as a "United States person," including citizens, lawful permanent residents, U.S.-organized entities (including foreign branches), and anyone in the United States.
