Closing the Provider Fraud Gap Act

Sponsored By: Representative Owens, Burgess [R-UT-4]

In Committee

Summary

Requires a GAO study of fraud prevention in federal early childhood education, child care, and child nutrition programs. The study would review how effective provider-level fraud prevention procedures are, whether the federal data from audits and reporting is sufficient and is used to spot fraud, and program integrity in the Child Care and Development Block Grant program when States delegate administration to counties or local entities. It would also examine whether corrective action plans were implemented and produced measurable outcomes. GAO would have two years to report findings and any regulatory or legislative recommendations to the House Committee on Education and Workforce and the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.
