DAIRY PRIDE Act
Sponsored By: Representative Joyce, John [R-PA-13]
Introduced
Summary
Limits use of dairy names to products actually made from milk from hooved mammals. This bill would add a new rule to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act that bars foods from using standardized dairy names unless they meet the law's dairy-product definition or satisfy the imitation requirements.

New dairy labeling rules for consumers
If enacted, the bill would ban using standard dairy names on foods that are not real dairy. A dairy product would be one whose main ingredient comes from the milking (lacteal secretion) of hooved mammals. FDA would have 90 days to issue draft guidance and 180 days to issue final guidance after enactment. Any prior FDA guidance that conflicts with the new rule would have no force if the bill becomes law. FDA would report to Congress within two years about warnings, penalties, and enforcement plans for misbranded dairy names. This could make food labels clearer for shoppers but raise compliance costs for companies.
