RECOGNIZING Judea and Samaria Act

Sponsored By: Representative Tenney, Claudia [R-NY-24]

Introduced

Summary

This bill requires the U.S. government to use the historical names "Judea and Samaria" instead of "West Bank" in official materials. It orders federal texts and agency work products to switch terminology and limits use of the term West Bank in U.S. government communications, with narrow exceptions for treaties and a State Department waiver.

Federal ban on 'West Bank' term

This bill would bar federal agencies and their contractors from spending money to make materials that call Judea and Samaria the "West Bank." It would apply to policies, guidance, rules, press releases, briefings, and other work products. It would not apply when the United States must meet treaty or other agreement duties. The Secretary of State could waive the rule if it is in the U.S. interest and must explain any waiver to Congress within 30 days. The limit would apply only to funds made available after enactment.
