Summary
Expands official observer access to all ballot-based federal elections. This bill would define an "election for Federal office" to include any general, special, primary, or runoff election conducted by ballot where candidates for the U.S. House or Senate appear on the official ballot.
Show full summary
- States and local election officials would need to treat primaries and runoffs that list federal candidates as federal elections for observer access, which could change who may attend ballot processes.
- Political parties would keep control over non-ballot candidate selection. Conventions, caucuses, and other selection methods without ballots listing federal candidates would not be covered.
- Election observers and watchdog groups would gain clearer authority to attend more ballot-based federal contests, including primaries and special elections.
- Federal candidates would see broader transparency in ballot-based stages of nomination and election, since those stages would fall under the clarified observer rules.
