Stuck On Hold Act

Sponsored By: Senator Kennedy, John [R-LA]

In Committee

Summary

The Stuck On Hold Act would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to install, within one year, an automated system that provides wait-time transparency and automated callbacks on covered VA customer service lines. It would direct the Secretary to issue guidance to cut average wait times on those lines to 10 minutes or less and would exclude the VA toll-free veterans hotline under 38 U.S.C. 1720F(h) and emergency department lines.

Wait-time notices and callbacks for VA

If enacted, the bill would require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to install an automated system on each covered VA customer service phone line within one year. The system would tell callers the expected wait time. Callers facing more than 10 minutes of wait would automatically be offered a callback. The Secretary would also have to issue guidance to try to reduce the average wait time for covered lines to 10 minutes or less. This would not apply to the toll-free veterans hotline under 38 U.S.C. 1720F(h) or to emergency department phone lines.
