Grants for community college workforce training
If enacted, the bill would create a competitive grant program to boost workforce training at community colleges and similar schools. The Department of Labor would award grants and could reserve up to 2% of appropriations for administration, outreach, technical help, and evaluation. Grant recipients could use up to 7% of each award for their own administrative costs and up to 15% to buy, lease, or refurbish specialized equipment. Grants would be used with employer partners to deliver career pathways, apprenticeships, work-based learning, and career services. Grants could also reduce students' unmet financial need for tuition, fees, materials, devices, or related costs. First grants would be up to 2 years long, and an institution could not get another grant until 2 years after its covered grant; later grants would depend on meeting performance targets and public reporting.
