119-s-3712119th Congress

BO’s Act

Sponsored By: Senator Hyde-Smith, Cindy [R-MS]

Introduced

Summary

This bill would direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to study whether home cardiorespiratory monitors for infants can help prevent Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID). The Secretary would carry out the study under the Public Health Service Act and submit a report to Congress within one year. The report must assess the effectiveness, performance, and accuracy of home monitors that track heart rate, blood oxygen, and other vital signs, with special attention to high-risk infants. It must also identify or develop new models of care to improve the home sleeping environment, describe health plan criteria for medically appropriate coverage of a home monitor, and recommend whether evidence supports coverage by public or private insurance.
