Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act of 2026
Sponsored By: Senator Cornyn, John [R-TX]
Introduced
Summary
This bill would create a time-limited program that allows Federal law enforcement officers to purchase firearms their agency retired. The General Services Administration would set up the program within one year. An officer in good standing, including a retired officer, could buy a firearm during the six-month period after the agency declares it surplus. Agencies must sell retired firearms at salvage value based on age and condition. The bill follows the federal legal definition of "firearm" and excludes certain machineguns. It specifies no funding and leaves sales management to the issuing agencies.

Buy retired service firearms for officers
If enacted, the bill would require the Administrator of General Services to set up this purchase program within 1 year. You would be able to buy a retired agency firearm if you are a Federal law enforcement officer in good standing, including retirees. Purchases would have to occur during the six-month period after the agency declares the firearm surplus. Firearms would be sold at their salvage value based on age and condition, and the bill excludes certain machineguns (those not lawfully possessed before section 922(o) took effect). The bill does not provide new funding and leaves issuing agencies to manage the sales.
