No Fencing at the United States Capitol Complex Act
Sponsored By: Senator Van Hollen, Chris [D-MD]
Introduced
Summary
Blocks federal funds for new permanent fencing around the U.S. Capitol complex. The bill would bar the use of federal money to install new permanent fences along the perimeters of Capitol Buildings as defined in 40 U.S.C. §5101 and the United States Capitol Grounds in 40 U.S.C. §5102. It would still let officials repair or replace any fencing that was in place on the date of enactment. The result is a narrow funding limit that prevents adding new permanent perimeter fencing while preserving maintenance and replacement of pre-existing fences.

No new permanent fencing at Capitol
If enacted, this bill would prohibit any Federal funds from being used to install new permanent fencing around the perimeter of Capitol Buildings or the United States Capitol Grounds. The ban would apply to the perimeters defined in 40 U.S.C. § 5101 and § 5102, and it could cover any portion of those perimeters. It would still allow the repair or replacement only of fencing that was in place on the date of enactment; the bill would not authorize new permanent fencing beyond that existing baseline.
