- Communities near bases: Focuses on sites drawn from the 727 DoD installations assessed for PFAS and on locations where remedial investigation or feasibility study end dates are delayed relative to DoD's Dec. 31, 2024 schedule.
- Department of Defense: Must continue ongoing interim remedial actions and begin new ones at covered sites, and may drop below the 100‑site target only if it cannot identify enough sites that meet the specified regulatory factor, with a required report to Congress when that happens.
- Congressional oversight: The Secretary would have to brief House and Senate Armed Services committees within 30 days, creating an early window for reporting the status and outlook of PFAS remediation.

Faster PFAS cleanup near military sites
If enacted, the bill would require the Defense Secretary to start interim PFAS remedial actions at at least 100 covered DoD sites within two years of enactment. It would also require the Secretary to finish interim cleanup actions already ongoing as of enactment. A “covered site” would be one of 727 installations in a June 30, 2026 DoD publication whose remedial investigation or feasibility study end date is later than the date listed for that site in DoD’s December 31, 2024 publication. The Secretary could start work at fewer than 100 sites only if enough sites do not meet the factor in 40 C.F.R. 300.415(b)(2)(i), and must report to Congress showing each site was assessed. The Secretary would brief the House and Senate Armed Services Committees within 30 days after enactment.
