Summary
National Hospital Week is supported for May 11–17, 2025 to honor hospitals, their staff, and their role in delivering safe, high-quality care. The resolution notes National Hospital Day began in 1921 on Florence Nightingale's birthday and that National Hospital Week dates to 1953. It cites about 6,100 U.S. hospitals, including 1,377 critical access hospitals serving about one-fifth of people in rural areas and 170 VA medical centers serving over 9.1 million veterans. Hospitals cared for more than 34 million admitted patients in 2023, delivered over 3.6 million babies in 2024, and employed over 5.7 million people as of April 2025. The resolution encourages communities to observe the week with recognition, ceremonies, and programs to show the importance of hospitals to patients and local life.
