New federal crime for abortion drugs
This bill would make it a federal crime to prescribe, give, distribute, or sell drugs to cause an abortion. Doctors, pharmacists, and sellers could face up to 25 years in prison, a federal fine, or both. It would not allow prosecution of the woman who takes the drugs. The bill would allow contraceptives given before conception or before pregnancy can be confirmed. It would allow treatment for miscarriage under accepted medical guidelines, and care for life‑threatening conditions certified by a physician. Treating an ectopic or molar pregnancy would not count as an abortion under this rule. It defines pregnancy as starting at fertilization and defines an unborn child from fertilization until birth. If enacted, it would take effect upon enactment.
