Home School Graduation Recognition Act
Sponsored By: Representative Harris (NC)
Passed House
Summary
Recognizes home-schooled students as high school graduates for Title IV student aid. This bill would amend section 484(d) of the Higher Education Act to define a “high school graduate” to include students who finished secondary education in a home school setting that state law treats as a home school or private school. That would let those students be treated like traditional high school graduates when they apply for federal student aid under Title IV. The change applies only to Title IV and does not create new funding or new enforcement rules.

Federal student aid for homeschooled grads
If enacted, you would count as a high school graduate for federal student aid if you completed home school. Your state must treat your home school as a home or private school. You would be able to apply for Pell Grants, federal student loans, and work-study under Title IV. This would apply only to federal student aid rules, not other programs. It would take effect upon enactment.
