Grants for rural LGBTQI seniors
This bill would create a Rural Outreach Grant Program under the Older Americans Act. It would authorize $5 million for each of fiscal years 2027 and 2028. Grants would go to states, tribes, area agencies on aging, nonprofits, and senior centers. Grants would fund outreach, reduce isolation, improve cultural competency, expand nondiscrimination, and provide sexual health services, including HIV care. Applicants would have to describe the rural populations served and partner with local organizations. Grantees would have to use funds to supplement, not replace, state or local money. The Assistant Secretary would set program standards and report to Congress one year after the program starts and annually after that.
