Whittier can buy 84.8 acres of rail land

The law lets the Alaska Railroad Corporation sell about 84.8 acres of surface land in five areas to the City of Whittier. The sale is for fair market value, and valid existing rights stay in place. The Legislature gives the needed approval for the transfer. The railroad and the city must agree on any surveying and platting, and legal descriptions can be adjusted reasonably with the board’s approval. ARRC may take cash equal to fair market value, and the law takes effect immediately.
