More college grants for returning Alabama students

Beginning October 1, 2026, ReEngage Alabama lowers its minimum age for returning college students from 25 to 22. Grants support a first associate or bachelor’s degree. A new path covers your first bachelor’s degree after a two-year break following your first associate degree. For that path, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and have received no earlier ReEngage grant. You must also meet the Commission’s eligibility rules. Alabama residency requires in-state classification, at least 12 months of residency before the term, and more than a temporary stay. Eligible programs must be secular, meet state workforce needs, and be offered by participating Alabama institutions. Full-time grants cover tuition and mandatory fees up to $3,000 per university semester or $1,500 per community college semester. Awards are proportional for six to 11 credit hours and for quarters, summer terms, and intersessions. Grants can renew for the terms normally needed to finish, with eligibility verified and no break longer than one consecutive semester or quarter. Schools must explain other available education benefits, and students must take steps to use them. Payments go directly to schools, and awards depend on available funding.
