Lifetime hunting/fishing licenses for disabled Alabama residents

The law takes effect October 1, 2026, and creates lifetime licenses beginning with the 2026 license year. Alabama residents with disabilities must qualify for an annual license under Section 9-11-54 to apply. They can buy lifetime hunting, freshwater fishing, or saltwater fishing licenses instead of annual licenses. Each costs $50 for people under 50 or $30 for people 50 and older, subject to statutory fee adjustments. The department can also charge a $1 issuance fee for a license or combination of licenses. Applicants must use the Commissioner's forms and apply through the Commissioner's office or another authorized method. Licenses cannot be transferred; lifetime hunting and freshwater fishing licenses include all wildlife heritage license privileges. Hunting and freshwater fishing fees go to the Alabama Game and Fish Endowment Fund. Saltwater fishing fees go to the Alabama Marine Resources Endowment Fund.
