Alabama authorizes two pharmacy oversight jobs

Beginning June 1, 2026, Alabama’s insurance commissioner can hire two employees for the Department of Insurance’s Pharmacy Benefits Manager Division. These jobs are outside the state Merit System and are added to other exempt jobs already authorized. The commissioner sets their pay. Hiring must follow Section 36-26-10 of the Code of Alabama 1975. The law does not set salaries or provide a specific funding amount.
