Beginning October 1, 2026, Tuscaloosa County’s tax assessor and tax collector can set up electronic business personal property tax procedures. These cover reporting, assessment, and payment. They can require electronic returns from businesses that lease personal property or have at least $10,000 in personal property assets. They can also require electronic returns when a professional or third-party tax preparer prepares them. Electronic returns must use the required format and include the same information as paper returns. Officials must set filing deadlines and electronic signature rules that generally match other electronic tax filing procedures. They must provide training and help, and can grant temporary exemptions for good cause. The law does not change the amount of tax owed.
