Elmore County sets $20 pistol permit fee

Beginning October 1, 2026, you pay a $20 issuance fee for a pistol permit or license in Elmore County, Alabama. The law replaces the prior treatment of this $20 as an added fee on top of other required fees. Of each fee, $1 goes to the county general fund and $19 goes to the Sheriffs’ Law Enforcement Fund. The sheriff deposits that money in a bank in Elmore County. Only the sheriff or an authorized agent can draw from the fund, and only for law enforcement purposes. This fund does not reduce or replace other income or reimbursements for the sheriff or sheriff’s office.
