Alabaster allows entertainment districts with alcohol limits

Beginning June 1, 2026, Alabaster’s City Council can create up to two entertainment districts by local ordinance. The city does not have to create them. Each district can measure no more than one-half mile by one-half mile. Eligible state-licensed alcohol retailers in a district can get permits allowing patrons to leave with open drinks and stay within district boundaries. Other alcohol laws and license rules still apply. Patrons cannot enter another licensed business with open drinks or closed containers bought elsewhere. During district hours, people other than retail licensees cannot bring in or possess open or closed alcohol containers acquired outside the district. The city can regulate district hours and operations or revoke a district’s designation. It must enforce the ordinance, which must specify penalties allowed by law.
