Montgomery probate court can use credit cards

Effective immediately, Montgomery County’s probate judge can set procedures for purchases using a credit card issued to the court’s office. Purchases must be goods or services approved by the judge, using credit from a domestic lender or credit card bank. Written rules must set per-purchase and monthly spending limits, with monthly limits considering the discretionary fund’s limit. Only the judge or a designated person can access the card, its numbers, or its access and security codes. The rules must require accurate purchase records and periodic review during required audits. The judge must review bills monthly for unauthorized charges, and bills must be paid fully and on time each month. Card selection rules must consider annual fees, rewards, rebates, interest, service charges, finance charges, late fees, and cancellation penalties. Any rewards or rebates must go into the Judge of Probate Fund, not to households.
