Effective immediately, the law governs an extra transaction fee for public business in Henry County’s probate office. The County Commission sets the fee at no more than $5, on top of other fees and costs. The first $2 goes into a special fund for office improvements, including preserving records and upgrading recording equipment. Any amount above $2 goes into the county’s General Fund. The probate judge collects the fee and must deposit it by the 20th of the month after collection. The judge decides how to spend the special fund on allowed office costs and can transfer money to the General Fund.
