Senior home assessment freeze in Henry County

The law authorizes Henry County to offer a senior home assessment freeze, subject to majority voter approval of the constitutional amendment. Homeowners must be 65 or older and own a single-family, owner-occupied home in Henry County. The home must have been used and assessed as their principal residence for at least 10 years immediately before the first claim's tax year. The freeze uses the assessed value from the tax year immediately before the first claim. Claims begin October 1, 2027, and must be filed in writing with the Henry County Revenue Commissioner between October 1 and December 31. The freeze lasts while the owner continues using the home as their principal residence. Eligible homeowners can still receive homestead and other exemptions allowed by law. Tax rate changes still affect tax bills, and later additions increase the assessed value used to calculate taxes.
