The law sets January 1, 2028, as its effective date, contingent on a general law authorizing local changes to constable offices. Starting with terms beginning in 2029, it establishes three elected constables per Alabama House district with territory in Mobile County. Each constable must be an eligible voter in the district they represent to perform the office's duties. Each serves a four-year term starting on the first Monday after the second Tuesday following the election. Constables stay in office until a successor is elected and meets the requirements to take office.
