Faster Alabama certification for career education teachers

Beginning June 1, 2026, Alabama provides faster certification to teach career and technical education at public high schools. Applicants must have taught these courses, or equivalent courses, in another state. They must hold a valid, active out-of-state teaching certificate or equivalent and provide a copy. They must also submit the application and fees, get a local superintendent’s recommendation, and pass a criminal history check. After verification, the State Superintendent must issue the certificate as soon as practical, without extra tests, coursework, or documents. The certificate covers only career and technical courses and follows standard certificate terms and renewal rules. Local school boards can offer moving money or hiring incentives to teachers certified through this pathway who move to Alabama. Payments depend on available funds; the law guarantees no payment and sets no amount. The State Board must establish the pathway and adopt rules to run it. The State Superintendent must track certificates issued and report each year by February 1. Reports go to the Governor, House Speaker, and Senate President Pro Tempore, covering certificate counts, teachers’ schools, and program results.
