Beginning October 1, 2026, the Shelby County Commission can approve, by resolution, sales of landfill gas, minerals, and other byproducts to public or private buyers. Sales must use open competition and sealed bids, with awards going to the lowest responsible bidder meeting bid requirements. Contracts cannot last more than 20 years. Sale money must go into Shelby County’s General Fund. The county can use it for waste collection and disposal, landfill maintenance and construction—including the gas collection system—or other legally allowed purposes.
