High school students excused for signing ceremonies

Beginning October 1, 2026, Alabama public high schools must excuse students signing commitment letters during school-time National Signing Day ceremonies. Qualifying commitments include athletic scholarships, college or other postsecondary education, apprenticeship programs, and military enlistment. Schools must provide reasonable accommodations, including meeting space with internet access and seating that does not disrupt instruction. Schools must allow guests to attend, subject to local school board policy. Principals may also excuse other students to attend.
