Alabama court fund covers more operating costs

Beginning June 1, 2026, the Administrative Office of Courts can use its technology fund for more court operating needs. The Administrative Director of Courts must select these additional uses to support Alabama courts' general operations. The fund must also cover service charges, electronic transfer fees, and other transaction costs for the listed court activities. These costs cannot reduce money due to other government funds or entities. The law sets no dollar amount and provides no direct household payment.

New technology funds for Alabama appeals courts

Beginning June 1, 2026, Alabama creates separate technology funds for its Supreme Court, Court of Civil Appeals, and Court of Criminal Appeals. The funds support electronic filing, payments, data sharing, staff training, and other court operations. Money can come from case-system user fees, copy fees, subscriptions, service charges, state funding, grants, gifts, and authorized transfers. Unspent money stays available for each court. Spending follows the Budget Management Act and cannot exceed amounts approved by the Legislature.
