Beginning June 1, 2026, Alabama public entities use goods-and-services purchasing rules instead of public-works rules for playground equipment contracts. This covers buying, designing, or installing equipment at public schools, parks, and other public property. Covered items include slides, swings, climbing equipment, seesaws, splash pads, safety surfaces, fences, signs, and shade structures. Applicable education and state purchasing rules still apply; the law creates no direct household payment or benefit.
