Higher pay for Montgomery County sheriffs

The law raises the Montgomery County sheriff’s yearly expense allowance from $20,000 to $70,000 after two full consecutive terms. This allowance comes in equal monthly payments, adds to other pay and benefits, and may count toward retirement contributions. It ends when the term of the sheriff serving on August 1, 2023, ends, or the office becomes vacant for any reason, whichever happens first. Beginning with the next term and continuing afterward, the yearly salary rises from $175,000 to $225,000. That salary applies to sheriffs who have served two or more full consecutive terms. The county’s general fund pays both the allowance and salary. The law takes effect on the first day of the first month after passage.
