Homeowners get written builder insurance notices

Beginning October 1, 2026, Alabama residential builders must disclose their current liability insurance status in writing before construction begins. The notice can be part of the original contract or an attached addendum. With current insurance, both parties may sign or initial the contract provision electronically or otherwise, without a witness. Without current insurance, both must sign the notice, and one witness chosen by the homeowner must attest to it. Builders who fail to comply violate the law and face penalties from the Home Builders Licensure Board.
