Alabama election panel must reflect state diversity

Beginning October 1, 2026, Alabama’s 23-member election planning committee must reflect the state’s racial, gender, geographic, urban, rural, and economic diversity. The committee helps the Secretary of State prepare the Help America Vote Act state plan. The Senate’s President Pro Tempore appoints five members, all of whom must be Alabama senators. This changes committee membership, not household payments or benefits.

School groups need approval for specialty plates

Beginning October 1, 2026, school groups need their school’s express written permission to apply for a specialty license plate. This covers groups within high schools, community colleges, universities, and technical schools. The license plate oversight committee cannot consider an application without that permission. The law names community colleges rather than junior colleges.
