Card processors face campaign donation penalties

Beginning October 1, 2026, credit-card processors face penalties for handling online donations to Alabama political organizations without required checks. These checks cover the card security code and U.S. ZIP code or billing-address requirements. Processors must forfeit an amount equal to the total donations covered by the violation.

New limits on Alabama online campaign donations

Beginning October 1, 2026, Alabama principal campaign committees, political action committees, and political parties face new online credit-card donation rules. Donors must provide the card security code and have a U.S. billing address when donating. U.S. citizens living abroad can use a foreign billing address but must still provide the security code. They must also provide their mailing address and the U.S. location used for voter registration when donating. Treasurers must keep these overseas donors’ names and addresses for required campaign reports.
