Insurers can limit China-linked organ transplant coverage

Arizona health plans and individual, group, or blanket disability insurers can limit coverage for organ transplants and post-transplant care. These limits apply when surgery occurs in China or Hong Kong, or the organ comes from a sale or donation there. Arizona's Medicaid program can apply the same limits only with approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The law does not require transplant coverage or require plans to impose these limits. Insurers and Arizona's Medicaid program can still deny coverage for other valid reasons.
