Arizona generally must add federally recommended disorders to its newborn screening panel within two years. The law removes that deadline when no commercially available FDA-approved test exists and a lab-developed test is used. That lab-developed test must require FDA premarket review and approval or authorization. This gives the health department more time but can delay adding screening for affected disorders.
