Coverage for children with PANDAS and PANS
Starting January 1, 2027, qualifying Connecticut individual and group health plans must cover treatment for PANDAS and PANS. Covered treatment includes intravenous immunoglobulin therapy. The rule applies when a policy is delivered, issued, renewed, amended, or continued in Connecticut on or after that date.
More people qualify for infertility coverage
Starting January 1, 2027, qualifying Connecticut plans use a broader definition of infertility for required coverage. It includes inability to establish or carry a pregnancy based on medical, sexual, or reproductive history, age, physical findings, or test results. It also includes needing medical help such as donor gametes, donor embryos, or a gestational surrogate. For the time-based tests, the person and partner must have the needed gametes: 12 months of unprotected intercourse, or six months due to age. Pregnancy loss does not restart either period.
Athletic limbs can qualify for coverage
Starting January 1, 2027, qualifying Connecticut plans can cover artificial limbs designed only for athletic use. The definition includes devices that replace all or part of an arm or leg. A health care provider must find a microprocessor-equipped device medically necessary.
Rules for higher-cost fertility procedures
Starting January 1, 2027, qualifying Connecticut plans can require people to meet the infertility definition and first try less expensive, medically viable treatments covered by the plan. This rule applies to in-vitro fertilization and certain other higher-cost fertility procedures. A plan cannot deny coverage for skipping a treatment that the person's physician says is likely to fail.
Scalp cooling coverage during chemotherapy
Starting January 1, 2027, qualifying Connecticut plans that cover chemotherapy must cover scalp cooling at least as well as Medicare. Cost sharing cannot be more restrictive than for substantially all other benefits. High-deductible health plans are exempt from the specified deductible limits. Plans may require prior authorization only as they do for other covered benefits.
