Pharmacists can get paid for covered care
Beginning January 1, 2028, health carriers, third-party administrators, and pharmacy benefit managers must include pharmacists in reimbursement processes and provider networks. They cannot deny payment solely because a pharmacist provided a covered clinical service. The service must be within the pharmacist’s licensed scope and covered by the plan when another licensed provider performs it. The law does not require plans to cover services they otherwise exclude, and plans can set reasonable participation and credentialing standards.
State studies insurance options for nonprofits
The Insurance Commissioner must study ways for nonprofits that contract with the state to pool liability insurance. The study must consider a captive insurance company, a risk management agency, or another insurance program, and develop a plan and financial analysis. By November 1, 2026, the Commissioner must report findings, recommendations, and funding needs to legislative committees. The law does not create an insurance vehicle or provide new funding; the work must stay within available appropriations.
